PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) -- Almost half of women have problems with the current monthly cycle of PMS known as premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The symptoms usually include nausea, abdominal pain to headache.
Not only the physical symptoms, PMS also a psychological effect which is called premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). This condition makes sufferers feel severe anxiety to depression.
On the other hand, a study from the University of Juarez Durango State, Mexico, indicate PMDD may be triggered by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. These parasites are transmitted via cat faeces.
The study, quoted by the Telegraph, shows that women who have suffered toxoplasma virus similar to PMDD symptoms, such as feeling overwhelmed and out of control.
Parasite Toxoplasma gondii causes toxoplasmosis in humans.
Toxoplasmosis generally have no specific symptoms. Only this condition attacks the immune system and affects women during pregnancy such as miscarriage or potentially lowering the infection to her child.
Other studies mention that the parasite be lodged in the brain, it can have an impact on human behavior. Toxoplasma potentially cause mental illnesses such as schizophrenia, due to an infection that affects neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, which leads to changes in behavior and mood of man.
To prevent this situation, experts advise to always keep around a pet cat. To avoid exposure to the parasite, wear gloves when gardening to avoid land potentially infected with toxoplasma and cleaning cat litter regularly.
