A study showed that those who frequently consume coffee or tea with added sugar or flavorings in these drinks, can increase significantly the number of calories without realizing it.

Launch Live Science, the results obtained after the researchers from the University of Illinois research data collecting tea and coffee drinking habits of Americans for more than 10 years.

The researchers analyzed data obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHNES) which collects 13 thousand lovers of coffee and tea penimum 6,200 from 2001 to 2012.

Based on these data, as much as 68 percent and 33 percent of coffee drinkers, tea drinkers are known to add sweeteners into their drinks.

"Our findings indicate that many coffee and tea drinkers routinely add the amount of calories they are to add flavor to the drink, but maybe subconsciously or take into account the impact of calories and nutrition," said An.

Any added sweeteners have the different calorie values. For sugar can contribute 42 calories to 37 calories for coffee and tea. While other sweeteners such as creamer or milk adds 23 calories and 3.7 for coffee and tea.

The researchers found sugar, sugar substitutes, cream, cream substitutes, and milk with and without fat, are other substances that are often added to coffee.

While the tea drinkers more often adding sugar or substitute, honey, or low-fat milk.

For the second drink, the majority of additional calories come from sugar and milk or cream. Extra calories from sugar in coffee, according to experts, can cover 60 percent. While from fat milk or cream can reach 33 percent.

For tea drinkers, sugar provides calories adding up to 85 percent while only nine percent milk fat.
